The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has directed all clubs to implement minimum monthly salaries for professional footballers across the Ghana Premier League (GPL), Division One League (DOL), and the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
This landmark decision, reached after engagements between the GFA and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), is part of ongoing efforts to improve player welfare and further professionalize football in Ghana.
Under the new directive:
Ghana Premier League: Minimum net monthly salary of GH¢1,500
Division One League: Minimum net monthly salary of GH¢700
Women’s Premier League: Minimum net monthly salary of GH¢700
According to the GFA, the new figures will apply to all contracts signed during the next registration window. For players already under contract, the minimum salaries will take effect at the start of the 2026/27 league season.
The GFA also revealed that a standardized contract template for professional players is already in use across GPL clubs, laying the foundation for the salary reform.
In its official statement, the Association described the establishment of the salary floor as a significant “policy shift,” which follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PFAG ahead of its last Congress.
The initiative, the GFA added, demonstrates a joint commitment to raising football standards in Ghana while ensuring that players receive fair and decent compensation for their work
