Northern RFA Chairman Visits Kumbungu District, Commends ‘Catch Them Young’ Referees

The Chairman of the Northern Regional Football Association, Alhaji Mohammed Abu Hassan Rhyzo, on 30th August 2025, paid a working visit to the Kumbungu District Football Association. During the visit, he also interacted with participants of the Catch Them Young Referees initiative in the district. He commended the District FA and the District Referees Manager for their vision and bold steps in identifying and nurturing young boys and girls to become future professionals in both football and refereeing.

Currently, about 29 young referees, drawn from different communities across the district, are enrolled in the program with hopes of developing into professionals.

The Regional Referees Manager, Mr. Alhassan Alidu Alhassan, also lauded the Kumbungu District FA for their efforts. He encouraged the young referees to remain disciplined, take their training seriously, and uphold respect and good behavior if they wish to excel in the profession. He further assured them of continuous support from the regional body.

As part of the initiative, the young referees received equipment and official jerseys through the joint support of the Regional FA and the Kumbungu District FA. Notably, Kumbungu has become the first district among the 25 districts in the region to provide branded uniforms for its upcoming referees.

The Catch Them Young initiative, a flagship program of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), seeks to identify and develop future refereeing prospects. The Kumbungu District FA has emerged as one of the leading bodies boldly championing this vision.

The visit was marked by words of encouragement and motivation to boost the morale of the young referees as they pursue their chosen path in football officiating.
