FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OFFICE OF THE HONOURABLE MINISTER FOR EDUCATIONCLARIFICATION ON ADMINISTRATIVE APPOINTMENTS TO THE AMBARIYA ISLAMIC EDUCATION UNIT

The attention of the Office of the Honourable Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has been drawn to widely circulated media reports regarding concerns expressed by the Leader of the Ambariya Islamic Community, Sheikh Saeed Zakaria, over the omission of certain individuals from the administrative appointment letters issued for the operationalization of the Ambariya Islamic Education Unit.

The Office wishes to place on record the facts surrounding the establishment and staffing of the Unit. The process leading to the operationalization of the Ambariya Islamic Education Unit involved extensive consultations between the Ghana Education Service (GES), led by the Director-General, and representatives of the Ambariya Islamic Community.

The Community was led during these engagements by Professor Abdulai Salifu Asuro, who acted on its behalf throughout the discussions. As part of the agreed process, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service requested the submission of names and curriculum vitae of proposed officials to be considered for appointment into the newly established Unit. Subsequently, Professor Abdulai Salifu Asuro, on behalf of the Ambariya Islamic Community’s representatives, formally submitted a list of nominees approved by their team for consideration and appointment.

The Ghana Education Service acted solely on the recommendations and nominations contained in the submission received from the representatives of the Ambariya Islamic Community. Consequently, the appointments issued were based entirely on the list provided by the Community’s designated representatives.

In light of the foregoing, the Office respectfully wishes to state that any concerns regarding omissions, exclusions, or additions of names in the appointment letters should be directed to, and clarified by, the representatives of the Ambariya Islamic Community who submitted the nominations to the Ghana Education Service.

It is therefore inaccurate and unfair to attribute any such concerns to either the Ghana Education Service or the Honourable Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, who had no role in determining the specific individuals nominated for appointment. The Office remains committed to maintaining a constructive relationship with the Ambariya Islamic Community and all stakeholders in the education sector.

We are confident that any misunderstandings arising from this matter can be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, and adherence to the facts.

Signed: Hashmin Mohammed(Press secretary to the Hon. Minister for Education)
