The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that StarTimes will resume broadcasting the Ghana Premier League (GPL) in February, following a resolution of financial issues between the two parties.
The Chinese-owned pay-TV operator had previously held the GPL broadcast rights since 2016, but its coverage was suspended due to unresolved financial issues with the GFA.
According to Nana Oduro Sarfo, a member of the GFA Executive Council, StarTimes will take over the broadcast rights completely, ending temporary arrangements with other TV stations.
“The last time I spoke about StarTimes was four weeks ago. StarTimes will come in February. The GFA doesn’t have any contract with a media house at the moment,” Sarfo stated in an interview on Guide Sports.
He further explained, “If by February, StarTimes comes on board, everything ceases, and nobody will have access to the rights anymore. They will take over completely.”
This season, the GPL has been broadcast on various TV stations, including Metro TV, Original TV, Net2 TV, and AFA Sports. However, with StarTimes’ return, fans can expect a more stable and consistent broadcast schedule.
