Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas will have to testify without his signature mask in the ongoing case against former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi, ruled the Court of Appeal on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
The unanimous decision, made by Justices Anthony Oppong, Ackaah Boafo, and Aboagye Tandoh, emphasized the importance of an accused person’s right to a fair trial, which supersedes witness protection principles.
“The doctrine of stare decisis binds lower courts to the decisions of higher courts, and as such, the High Court erred in revisiting an issue already settled by the Supreme Court,” the ruling stated.
Anas, known for his undercover investigative work, exposed alleged corruption in Ghanaian football through his 2018 Number 12 documentary, leading to charges against Nyantakyi. The former GFA boss lost his football roles, including positions on the FIFA Executive Council and as CAF Vice President, following the documentary.
