Newborn Vanishes from Hospital Ward; Police and GHS Launch Investigation

Anxiety and uncertainty have gripped a family in Salaga following the disappearance of a newborn baby from the East Gonja District Hospital, prompting an intensive search and a joint investigation by health authorities and the police.

The Savannah Regional Health Directorate (SRHD) of the Ghana Health Service confirmed the incident in a press release issued on Thursday, describing the disappearance as unfortunate and deeply concerning.

According to the Directorate, the baby went missing on June 10, 2026. Hospital authorities immediately conducted a search within the facility after receiving reports of the incident, but the efforts yielded no results. The case was subsequently referred to the East Gonja District Police Command for investigation.

The SRHD expressed its deepest sympathies to the parents and family of the missing child, assuring them of its full support as efforts continue to locate the baby.

Health officials say they are collaborating closely with hospital management, the Ghana Police Service and other relevant stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and ensure the safe recovery of the newborn.

The Directorate also moved to reassure the public that the safety and security of patients, particularly newborns, remain a top priority for the Ghana Health Service.

Meanwhile, authorities are appealing to the public for information that could aid the search. Anyone with knowledge of the baby’s whereabouts has been urged to contact the nearest police station, the Savannah Regional Health Directorate or the East Gonja District Hospital.Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
