Thursday, May 22, 2025 – The SOS Pukparim Nyela Bom’ma(Pumbo) Project has extended vital support to farmers in anticipation of the 2025 farming season. As part of its intervention, the project distributed essential farm inputs including fertilizers, maize seeds, and pesticides to local farmers in Northern Region.

Six (6) communities—Chanshegu, Banvum, Gbulahibila, Golinga, Foshegu, and Adubiliyili are set to benefit from the initiative. In each of these communities, between 48 and 50 farmers received support packages consisting of 8 bags of fertilizer, 4 bags of maize seeds, and 2 cans of pesticides. These inputs are estimated to cover two acres of farmland per beneficiary.

The SOS Pumbo Project, now in its second year, is a three-year initiative implemented in partnership with DSW and the Department of Agriculture. The maiden edition, launched in 2024, supported 100 farmers. This year, the project is reaching approximately 260 farmers across the six beneficiary communities.

Project Coordinator Yussif Alabira highlighted the objective of the initiative, stating: “The aim is to empower and strengthen families, increase agricultural productivity, and ensure good yields. Ultimately, we want families to be food secure, support their children’s education and healthcare, and improve their overall standard of living.”

Farmers have expressed their appreciation for the timely support. Madam Damata Alhassan, a beneficiary, shared her gratitude: “I want to thank SOS Pumbo for supporting us. It would have been difficult to afford all these inputs. But they gave them to us for free. We’ll use them wisely to get good harvests to feed our families.”

Another farmer, Issahaku, also thanked the organization and appealed to other institutions to emulate SOS Pumbo’s efforts in supporting farmers.

SOS Pumbo Project also used the occasion to advise beneficiaries to utilize the inputs solely for their intended purpose and to avoid any diversion of resources.
