Sankara Nationals have been crowned champions of the 2024/2025 Northern Regional Football Association (NRFA) Division Two League following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tamale Steadfast FC in a thrilling final played at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

The result not only secured the trophy for Sankara Nationals but also confirmed their promotion to the Access Bank Division One League for the 2025/2026 season.

Steadfast FC started the match on the front foot, taking the lead early in the game through a penalty converted by Manytea Uthman. The early goal gave Steadfast momentum, as they looked to assert control over the contest.

However, Sankara Nationals responded with resilience, and their pressure paid off in the 40th minute when Sylvester Biyandau found the back of the net to bring the game level at 1-1 just before halftime.

After the break, both teams pressed for a winner in an intense and competitive encounter. The decisive moment came in the 75th minute when Sampa Josiah fired home a well-taken goal to complete the comeback for Sankara Nationals. The team held onto their 2-1 lead until the final whistle to seal the championship.

For their triumph, Sankara Nationals received a cash prize of GHC 5,000 and 30 gold medals, courtesy of the Northern Regional Football Association. Runners-up Tamale Steadfast FC were also rewarded with GHC 3,000 for their efforts.

With this victory, Sankara Nationals earn promotion to the Access Bank Division One League, joining other northern-based clubs such as Real Tamale United (RTU), Tamale City, Northern City, and Yapei United in Zone One for the upcoming season.

The championship win marks a significant milestone in Sankara Nationals’ football journey, as they prepare to take on greater challenges at the national level next season.
