Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has publicly expressed his disappointment and feelings of abandonment by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) amidst his ongoing legal battles. Nyantakyi’s woes stem from Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s explosive “Number 12 exposé,” which led to charges of fraud and corruption against him.¹

In a recent interview with Hot FM, Nyantakyi lamented that despite his loyalty to the NPP, the party has left him to face the music alone. “Even during my prime time to contest the seat, it was an issue within the party. I thought that if I contested, they would have cancelled the court case,” he revealed.

Nyantakyi, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, questioned the rationale behind his prosecution, emphasizing that he hasn’t misused government funds or committed any heinous crimes. “I haven’t spent any government money, I haven’t killed anybody, but I’m still in court,” he noted.

The case, which has been adjourned several times, is currently awaiting the outcome of two pending appeals filed at the Court of Appeal. As Nyantakyi continues to navigate the complexities of his legal struggles, his public rebuke of the NPP is likely to spark intense debate and discussion within Ghana’s political and football circles.
