FC Savannah and Tamale Super Ladies Set for Epic FA Cup Derby Clash
This Saturday, city rivals FC Savannah and Tamale Super Ladies will face off in a highly anticipated FA Cup derby, with both teams seeking to gain bragging rights and advance in the competition.
According to Head Coach of Tamale Super Ladies, Harunah Najimudeen, “It’s an FA Cup derby, I know it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re set and eying a victory on Saturday against FC Savannah Ladies.” Najimudeen expressed confidence in his team’s preparedness, citing their record of reaching the last 16 stage of the competition for the past three seasons. “Our target for this season is to go beyond the round 16, if not to win the ultimate but at least reach the quarter or semi-final stage,” he added.
Meanwhile, FC Savannah’s Head Coach, Adam Tamim, has downplayed the significance of the FA Cup, stating that his team’s primary focus is on overcoming their struggles in the Women’s Premier League and escaping relegation. “Savannah Ladies aren’t too concerned about the FA Cup, and its journey,” Tamim said. “Though we’re ready to face Tamale Super Ladies and aim for victory, our current focus is on how we can overcome the struggles in the women’s Premier League and be able to escape relegation at the end of the season.”
Both teams have had a slow start to the 2024/2025 league season, accumulating only 7 points each after 6 games. A win in this FA Cup clash could be a turning point for the winner, as they’ll meet again in a league fixture later on.
