The Assembly Member for Jegun Electoral Area, Mr. Mohammed Tuahiru, has made a passionate appeal to the government ,particularly to the District Chief Executive, Member of Parliament for Nanton, Hon. Mohammed Sherif Abdul-Khaliq and other stakeholders to urgently address the worsening state of school infrastructure in the district.

In an interview on Zangali 106.1 FM, Mr. Tuahiru expressed concern over the serious impact the poor infrastructure is having on education in the area. He cited a striking example of a local school serving 1,645 pupils with only nine classrooms, structures originally built in 1994 by the Christian Children Fund of Canada (CCFC).

The situation, he noted, has worsened over the years, particularly after a rainstorm destroyed the school’s roof nearly seven years ago. The damaged roof remains unrepaired, leaving classrooms exposed to the elements and severely disrupting teaching and learning activities.
Beyond structural issues, the school also lacks adequate furniture and teaching materials, forcing both teachers and pupils to endure difficult conditions in their pursuit of education.

Mr. Tuahiru called on the District Chief Executive and other stakeholders to collaborate with the central government to ensure a better and safer learning environment. He emphasized that the infrastructure challenges are not limited to Jegun alone but also affect surrounding communities such as Kokoo, where schools continue to grapple with insufficient classrooms and furniture.

The Jegun Electoral Area is located in Ghana’s Northern Region and falls under the jurisdiction of the Nanton District. The Assembly Member’s plea underscores the urgent need for investment in educational infrastructure to guarantee quality education and improved outcomes for children in the area.
