In a continued effort to support healthcare delivery and the fight against malaria in Ghana, Bliss GVS Pharmaceutical Agency has donated pharmaceutical products worth GH₵120,000 to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). The donation, presented on Wednesday April 16 2025, marks the third consecutive year the company has supported the hospital with essential medical supplies.
Bliss GVS, manufacturers of the popular antimalarial Lonart and other pharmaceutical products, has made these annual contributions as part of its corporate social responsibility to enhance healthcare services in underserved regions.
Mr. Dauda Adam, Medical Representative for Northern Region at Bliss GVS, led the presentation on behalf of the company. He highlighted their ongoing commitment to fighting malaria and strengthening the health system in northern Ghana. “We are proud to contribute to the crucial work being done at Tamale Teaching Hospital. This donation reflects our dedication not only to improving patient outcomes but also to sustaining our long-term partnership with public health institutions,” Mr. Adam said.
Receiving the items, Dr. Salifu Alhassan Tia, Director of Pharmaceutical Services at TTH, expressed deep appreciation for the support. He emphasized that the medicines would go a long way in addressing drug shortages and boosting care delivery, especially in the hospital’s malaria treatment units. “This donation is timely and vital. It helps us respond better to patient needs and highlights the importance of private sector involvement in public health,” Dr. Tia stated. “We encourage more organizations to follow the example set by Bliss GVS.”
Speaking at the event, the Regional Chair of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, Dr. Charles N. Buaben, lauded the initiative and stressed its wider impact beyond the hospital.“On behalf of the association, I will say this donation will go a long way to help not only the hospital but the community and Tamale as a whole,” Dr. Buaben noted. “As we’re entering the rainy season, there’s going to be a lot of malaria cases, and now the cost of treating it is very high. So this donation, which is worth GH₵120,000, is going to ease the burden for about 20% of the population—both adults and children. Indeed, we’re very grateful for this gesture. As the hospital uses these products, we encourage other community pharmacists to go in for the same to serve the community.”
The donated items included antimalarials, antibiotics, analgesics, and other critical drugs that will be distributed across the hospital’s departments. Bliss GVS’s support is part of a broader effort to combat malaria in Ghana, where the disease continues to pose a major public health challenge.
