Tamale City FC have booked their place in the Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup after defeating Ghana Premier League side Karela United 14–13 on penalties, following a goalless draw at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on Wednesday.
The Division One League side were reduced to ten men just before half-time when midfielder Iddrisu Gadafi was shown a straight red card in the 43rd minute for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Despite the numerical advantage, Karela United were unable to break down a resilient Tamale City side, with both teams missing key chances as the match ended 0–0 after 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
The tie was eventually decided by a marathon penalty shoot-out, where Tamale City held their nerve to win 14–13 after 16 kicks each, securing a dramatic passage into the Round of 16.
The victory also means Tamale City remain unbeaten in all competitions so far in the 2025/26 season.For Karela United, the result ends their FA Cup campaign, as their focus now shifts back to the Ghana Premier League and their upcoming fixture against Aduana SC.
