Sports writer and pundit Mohammed Issah has challenged Tamale City FC to rise above recent setbacks and push for a return to the Ghana Premier League at the end of the 2025/2026 Access Bank Division One League season.

Speaking on the Sports Bulletin Show on Zangali 106.1FM, He expressed concern over the club’s steady decline in performance when compared to their impressive form about four seasons ago.

“This is not the Tamale City we used to know. Their performance keeps dropping season after season,” he said.

Mohammed Issah believes the club has drifted from the strong identity that once made them one of the division’s most compelling sides. Nonetheless, he insists this season presents an opportunity for redemption.

“I want Tamale City to surprise me at the end of the season. I challenge the club to win Division 1A, qualify for the playoffs and possibly return to the Premier League,” he added. Although he admits their recent two-season record makes promotion a tough task, he urged the squad to defy the odds.

STRONG START, BUT CONSISTENCY WILL DETERMINE THEIR FATE

Tamale City have made a solid start to the 2025/2026 campaign, going unbeaten in six matches. Four wins and two draws. Mr Issah welcomed the bright opening but underscored the need for sustained performance. “These results are excellent, but the league is a marathon. Their biggest test will be consistency. If they sustain this form, they can achieve big.”

UNMATCHED FAN SUPPORT

Mr Issah praised the club’s dedicated supporters, describing them as central to the club’s character. “Their fanbase is incredible loyal, supportive and superb. The story of Tamale City can’t be told without them.”

A CLUB WITH A TOPFLIGHT PAST

Tamale City, based in Tamale, currently competes in the Access Bank Division One League. They secured Premier League promotion in the 2021/2022 season but were relegated the following year.

Mohammed Issah believes they can reclaim topflight status if they maintain focus, though he cautioned it will not be easy. “If Tamale City truly try, things can change positively, but it won’t come easy,” he concluded.
