Grassroots football took centre stage in Yendi during the midweek (Wednesday 31 December 2025) as Sankara Nationals FC formally introduced the club to the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Ali Adolf Mburidiba, during the finals of the 7th edition of the Dasuma Clan Tournament , an event that continues to play a growing role in sports development across Ghana’s Eastern Corridor.

Club officials marked the occasion by presenting the Minister with an official replica jersey, symbolising what they described as a partnership vision for youth football growth in the region.

On the pitch, the Nakohagu Clan produced a disciplined performance to edge Laabansi 1–0 in a tense final to clinch the men’s football title. In the women’s Tug of War competition, the Macheligu Clan came out on top after a hard-fought contest underlining the tournament’s increasing inclusivity and community reach.

Tournament founder and Sankara Nationals CEO, Alhaji Baba Osman Daney, used the platform to highlight a key challenge facing the host venue ,the Yendi Multipurpose Resource Centre which still operates without electricity. He appealed for government intervention, noting that reliable power would support evening fixtures, improve safety, and expand opportunities for structured sports training.

The Northern Regional Minister responded positively, praising the role of football in peace-building and youth engagement. He pledged to work with relevant agencies to connect the facility to the national grid, stressing that infrastructure remains central to unlocking the region’s sporting potential.

“This tournament shows how football can unite communities,” the Minister said, acknowledging the impressive turnout and the strong organisational capacity behind the event.

Beyond the results, the Dasuma Clan Tournament continues to grow in reputation as a platform for talent discovery, social cohesion, and the revival of community sport , with Sankara Nationals FC positioning itself as one of the clubs championing that mission in the Eastern Corridor’s of Ghana.
