The Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) of the Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly has ordered an immediate halt to illegal bush burning by hunters following a series of destructive fires that have claimed lives, livestock and property in parts of the municipality. The directive was issued on Friday January 09 2026 by the Chairman of MUSEC and Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Abdullai Imoro Gong, after recent bushfires in some communities including Gbulah, Kulaa and Kpentaliga escalated into major infernos, causing widespread destruction.

According to the Municipal Assembly, the fires were allegedly started by individuals engaging in bush burning under the pretext of hunting, a practice authorities describe as dangerous and environmentally destructive. In response to the situation, MUSEC has instructed all hunting groups operating within and outside the municipality to immediately cease the practice.

As part of measures to address the situation, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has been directed to collaborate with relevant offices to assess the extent of damage caused by the fires and submit a comprehensive report.
The Municipal Police Command has also been tasked to investigate the incidents, arrest those responsible, and intensify surveillance to prevent further outbreaks of bushfires. Residents have meanwhile been urged to report any suspicious bush burning or suspected arson activities to the Municipal Security Council to enable swift intervention.
Hon. Abdullai Imoro Gong reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to protecting lives and property, safeguarding the environment, and maintaining peace and security within the Sagnarigu Municipality.
