The Regent of Bamvim, Mahama Alhassan, has announced that the final funeral rites of his late father, Banvimlana Abdullah Mahama, will be held from January 9 to 16, 2026.

Speaking to the press and residents, the Regent said the directive to perform the funeral came from the Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Yaa-Naa. He explained that although he did not feel fully prepared for the ceremony, he could not disregard the instruction from the traditional authority. He therefore appealed to chiefs and residents of Bamvim and neighbouring communities to participate peacefully and in large numbers.

The Regent added that the peaceful conduct of the event would disprove suggestions that he is creating tension in the area.

A sub-chief under Bamvim, Manguli-Lana Alhassan, also called for peace ahead of the funeral. He dismissed rumors suggesting he opposed the organization of the rites, noting that the false reports had reached both the Regional Coordinating Council and the Overlord of Dagbon. He said he later met the Regional Minister, who confirmed the claims were unverified and should be ignored.

Another sub-chief, Mba Kamonaa, cautioned mourners against carrying unauthorized weapons to the funeral grounds, warning that anyone found doing so would face sanctions. He also announced that the traditional shaving of hair will take place on Friday, followed by the Bunwuhibu rites on Thursday. The chiefs urged the public to support the ceremonies in unity and dignity as the late chief is laid to rest according to custom.
