In a strong statement, Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs have collectively condemned the recent acts of hooliganism and violence that have marred the beautiful game in Ghana.

The statement, released after a meeting at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Secretariat on Thursday, February 6, 2025, specifically referenced the tragic incident that occurred at the Nsoatreman FC vs. Asante Kotoko SC match, resulting in the loss of life of a loyal Kotoko fan, Francis Nana Frimpong (aka Pooley).

The GPL clubs extended their deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and the entire Asante Kotoko SC fraternity, while emphasizing their commitment to promoting fair play, sportsmanship, and respect for the game.

To address the issue of hooliganism, the GPL clubs have agreed to enhanced match day security protocols, which will be presented to the GFA Executive Council meeting on Friday, February 7, 2025. Comprehensive guidelines will be published ahead of the resumption of the premier league season.

The clubs pledged to work closely with the GFA, security agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure that those responsible for these criminal acts are brought to justice.

In a united front, the GPL clubs called on all football fans and stakeholders to join them in promoting a safe and enjoyable environment for the game.
