The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has expressed his disappointment over Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The draw for the tournament, set to take place in Morocco, was held on January 27 in Rabat, with all qualifying teams discovering their opponents. Unfortunately, Ghana will not be participating after failing to advance from their qualifying group.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Asante Twum acknowledged the mixed emotions surrounding Ghana’s absence from the AFCON for the first time in 20 years. “Missing out on AFCON qualification is a mixed feeling, especially when teams like Botswana have qualified. It’s a bitter pill to swallow,” he admitted.

Despite the setback, Asante Twum defended the decision to retain head coach Otto Addo, citing that Ghanaians were warned about the potential challenges his appointment might bring.

With the 2025 AFCON no longer an option, Ghana will now focus on securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup, with qualifiers scheduled for March.”
