Tolon A Crowned Soyalana Gala Champions as Tournament Unearths Future Football Talents

Tolon A were crowned champions of the Soyalana Community Gala competition after defeating Nyankpala B 2-0 in the final played at the Tolon Astro Turf on Sunday, May 10, 2026. The tournament, which featured 16 communities across the Tolon District, was solely sponsored by the Member of Parliament for the Tolon Constituency, Habib Iddrisu, popularly known as Soyalana.

Tolon A received ¢20,000, medals, and the tournament trophy for emerging champions, while runners-up Nyankpala B earned ¢15,000, medals, and a trophy for their impressive performance throughout the competition. The third-placed team also received ¢10,000 as part of the tournament’s reward package.

Individual excellence was equally recognised, with the top scorer, best player, and best goalkeeper each receiving a motorbike for their outstanding performances during the tournament.

Beyond the trophies and financial rewards, the competition also served as a major platform for talent discovery and youth development. Several young players who participated in the gala were reportedly scouted and selected for National U-15 and U-20 opportunities, while others secured moves to Division Two clubs.

Organisers and stakeholders have praised the competition for promoting peace, unity, and development within the Tolon District and across the Northern Region, while also educating communities on the evolving opportunities within modern football.

The grand finale attracted several high-profile dignitaries, including a delegation from the Ghana Football Association, former Finance Minister Amin Adam, former Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, and Northern Regional Football Association Chairman Alhaji Abu Hassan Rhyzo.
